African Laces on sales: 7$ per yard ! Yes but...

So you can now buy online direct from China laces as low as 7$ per yard, minimum quantity per order: 5 yards! That's how things go: everybody can buy now direct from China at rock bottom prices ! But are these laces really worth it ? Well, we would say yes : they are worth the price you pay, nothing more, nothing less ! Still, transportation is not included and you ll have to double the price as shipping alone cost 30$. All combined, you get your 5 yards lace delivered to your place at :

7$ x 5 yards + 30USD shipping + 6 USD insurance = 66$ for 5 yards.

For this money, you get a fully loaded lace with sequens, stones and embroidery...except that the swiss voile can t be Swiss, because it's made in China ! And I don t beleive one second that the Chinese lace compagny is buying swiss voile in Switzerland, ship it to China, make the embroidery and put the stones, and sell it for 7$ !

A real swiss voile is finished in Swizerland or Austria, and just a couple of machines are able to produce this very special finishing that make the coton so nice, and that it doesn t shrink so bad with the first wash that you have to give it away to your little niece.

Ok, but if Chinese can copy everything, why aren t they able to just copy swiss voile ? Simple : have you ever seen a Chinese guy able to make bread like a French boulangerie ? Have you ever seen a Chinese actor been able to act in a Nollywood movie ? No way : he just can't no matter how hard he tried.

Same applies for Swiss voile : precision make the voile such a stable fabric for such a light voile. And precison is a matter of State in Switzerland: watches...we don t full with quality overthere, and we don t take shortcut with dangerous color forbidden in Europe, but allowed in China for the African market...

So as we said, is this 7$ lace worth it : yes ! It's worth what it's worth, but don't be fooled as it's not worth one cent more !

African lace deliveries resume !

After a couple of weeks of mess in our deliveries and after being stuck in San Francisco without any plane to go back to Austria, eventually everything is getting back to normal, as if there was no volcano eruption ever ! We just wonder waht happened to this massive hash cloud as nobody talk about it anylonger.
So we start to receive emails from you saying that you eventually received the laces ordered. It's very good news !

News from African Lace Network

Last but not least, it took us years to set up the whole thing on internet, but eventually, here we are ! The original idea was to set up a worldwide network based on african laces. The more people would join, the better as we ccoul work as private sales with pre order from the network = everybody order a promotional lace, and we do the production in one shoot, then we have wholesales prices for the whole network.
We are not yet there, but it s coming as we aklready reduced our prices, even taking into account aweak british poungs and us dollar.
Today, we have 1356 members on the network !! and this doenst take into account our regular customers ! It's pretty big already.
But ne need to be more if we want the scheme to work out best for everybody.
So tell your family, firends who use a computer to register : nobody competes here, and there is room for everybody.

When it comes to select the right voile lace for African wedding dresses, there are a couple of options to consider before buying uniforms :

- First, you wan the design to be exclusive. The best way to garantee that an african lace designs has not being seen on the market is to buy direct from the manufacturer( renowned manufacturers ). manufacturers have their own designers that produce new designs or new colors all the time.

- Make sure that the design you select has not being produced in 100000 of yards already. Mass product laces are good for everyday wear, but not for an unique event or party. Usually the lower the prices, the stronger the chance you have to buy an old design.

- Plan enough in advance to allow the manufacturer to produce your order. last minute buy won t save you any money.

- Select a first quality lace : avoid polyester and cheap coton voile. Maybe you can' t tell when you buy, but once you wear it next to another real swiss voile lace, anyone will notice the difference in quality !

- Pick up a design with a bold embroidery. Bold embroideries make the voile heavier and it sits better when manufactured in too a boubou or uniform.

And eventually, go to teh right places when it comes to make your final decision. If anyone offers you in Switzerland or Austria laces at the price of Asian lace, exerce extreme caution ! The goods come probably from Asia, even if sold in Switzerland. There is no miracle, and real Swiss voile cost some money, nothing under 100EUR for 5 yards !

Counterfeit goods from China hits hard Nigeria

The Nigeria textile industry keeps going downhill at a very fast past : the numbers of jobs is down to 24000, just one tenth what it was back in the mid 80s.

The downturn keeps going also the Nigerian government took tough import legislation on imported goods a few years, not to say banning all imported textile.

For African lace voile, the top end fabrics always came from Switzerland and Austria, but they represent just 5% of the fabrics bought by Nigerian people.

The core African laces are made in China, flowing the market with low quality - unexpensive embroidered voile laces.

The local production had to compete directly with these imported laces, often with counterfeit designs. The point being that for Chinese people, there is nothing wrong to copy, in chinese culture it is normal that the master is copied even as a sign of respect.

However, it comes wrong when goods are copied to make money and steal other people s jobs. Here there is no culture anymore!

Up to some point, it doesn t make sens at all that Chinese people manufacturer every day cloths for African people. African people have the knowhow and tatse of what they like and by all means production cost in Nigeria is not higher than in China.

It s up to the Nigerian industry to make the right alliances to source the voile , set up the design teams in Nigeria and make the embroidery overthere.

It s not such a long way to go , there are very talented textile designers in Nigeria. They just need a competitive industry to back them up .

Swiss Voile Lace : The real and the fake.

We won't stress enough how much fake swiss voile laces there are on the market. First of all, the name tells it all : Swiss voile lace. It's not "Chinese voile lace", or "Korean Voile Lace" or "Turquish voile lace"; but "Swiss voile lace".

The name is Swiss voile lace beacause the production of new designs comes from Switzerland and from the other side of the border, Austria. Only this area in the world produce the real Swiss voile lace.

Of course, all the other production looks alike. Howevere; it's a bit like the cheap shoes you can buy on african street market : they look alike, but just look alike !

Sometime, you even don't have the chance to walk home from the market that they already fall apart !

Same happens to the laces : it look like ( If you re lucky); but they just look like The main difference between a real and a fake Swiss voile lace are :

- Fakes one don't have the same touch. Either there is some polyester, or the coton is a bad quality one ( Real Swiss voile lace are made with egyptian coton, the most expensive raw coton in the world).

- The real swiss voile lace are made with a very thin coton yarn : that's one of the secret. So thin that it breaks all the time during manufacturing, and that's why a real swiss volie cost so much : it takes time to sew it. And only this coton can provide such a lightess in the feel; which means that you don't sweat like in a plastic bags when temperature raise above 35°C !

- Real lace are embroidered in the Lustenau and St gallen Area in Europe : nowhere else. Only here they have the formula to get the final touch on the fabric. Machinery can be found anywhere in the world; unlike the softner formula !

- Eventually, designs are news: And it takes a lot of energy and creativity to come out with a new design. It takes much less to copy it and make a a fake one.

All this to say that there is some good news : Fakes Swiss voile laces are not growing any longer on the market and it becomes harder to sell these cheap laces. Like we say in Switzerland : " A cat will not get wet twice". In other words, people prefers to buy less and real; than a lot and fake.

The crisis in which the wall street boysdump us all has actually a positive consequence as far as the AfricanLace network is concerned : now there is more than 1000 members ! From USA, UK, all over Europe but also Nigeria and Western Africa. So we manage to lower the prices on some laces. Of course, it would be better not to have any crisis and higher lace price; but still it s not too bad !
As we get feed back from our customers all over the World; they are all very upset against the banks, and they are pretty much right: These guys are nothing less than criminals with white collars; they should go to court and be sentenced for the pain they are responsible for worldwide. But it didn't take that road : they just cash another fews billions in Europe now, right in the middle of the mess ...

Introducing NOLLYWOOD, our new swiss voile lace made in Austria and made with loads of sequens, to shine like a movie star !

Nollywood is the largest movie making industry after India, and we hope this new lace will have the success it deserves by its name.

With this new design, we didn't save the number of sequens : 1000,s can be found on a single piece of fabric. We add as well triangle holes all tru the lace. Coming by piece of 5 yards, it's a perfect design for parties.

We are back with the online shop of Novalace. We struggled big time the mast months; mostly because of Paypal ! We had to stop the online shop as Paypal kept refusing payments after payments . SO a lot of you had orders cancelled...sorry for that.
It's crasy : Paypal kept beleiving we were dealing drigs or something like that. We called them many times and they never beleived that black Americans are able to afford our lace..
So retarded.
Well, we decided to keep running with PayPal as a main option for payments. As the results; the online sales are now running like PRIVATE SALES.

Swiss Voile : the Truth about Swiss Voile

African heritage is rich in diversity and very upscale styles in ethnic clothing. Unlike in Western Europe and USA, haute couture is not just for a minority: having custom made clothing based on measurements for ceremonies, weddings and parties is very common.

African and ethnic clothing are carefully hand made by a myriad of designers, and the rich fabrics are sourced from all over the World.

The key in ethnic apparel is the fabric sourcing: the fabric must be exclusive and top quality. For embroideries and laces, the very best sourcing is from Austria and Switzerland.

Swiss voiles or African laces are made of one base fabric (Named ground base) and stitched yarns making the design.

The ground base is 100% cotton but the fabric itself is much more than basic cotton: it’s light, nervous and made from the thinnest cotton yarn in the World, using the very best cotton fibers.

With a special finishing, this cotton fabric doesn’t shrink after washes and keeps its colors. It’s the utmost of cotton fabrics. In non ethnical clothing you usually find equivalent fabrics in very top end collections of famous brands: Dior, Pierre Cardin, Nina Ricci…

The voiles made in China might be 100% cotton, but it doesn't mean a thing. Low grade cotton is worth than any other fabrics : it schrinks, loose its shape and colors.

How to know if you purchase a real or a fake Swiss voile? First of all; it has to be garanteed made in Switzerland or Austria.
When you take it in your fingers, the fabric must be very nervous and make noise when you rub it.
Once you get the trick, you can figure out with eyes closed a real swiss voile from a fake one. But even in Austria or Switzerland, don't trust with blind eyes, some low key manufacturers are selling imported voile for the price of Swiss voile. Trust only you when it comes to buy a ceremony african lace.

Swiss Voile Lace : get to learn about the yarns.

When it comes to African laces, yarns use to stitch the design are very important. Unfortunatly, it doesn't show on the label what kind of yarn is used on the fabric. There are different types of yarns that make all the difference in price and quality.

The very first quality for a yarn is not to loose the colors after the first wash. If second grade yarns are used by the lace manufacturer, colors will fade after just a couple of washes. Even worth, during the first wash colors will migrate onto the base fabric! Having a first grade yarn is the guarantee that the fabric will remain new and unspoiled after many washes.

The best yarns are the ones found in the high end lingerie industry: they are made to resist up to 40 machine washes in some cases. Wash after wash, the colors will remain bright and full. Most of the lace manufacturer do not use lingerie yarns, simply because they are expensive, and african lace users don't see the difference when they buy the lace. They see it after...wash.!

There are two types of yars : polyester and viscose ( cotton ). The cotton yarn is the best as it looks much better. It is also more expensive. To know if your lace has a coton or polyester yarn, it's simple : just cut a yarn where it can't be seen on the fabric, and light it up with a lighter.

If after burning you see a little black ball, it's polyester. If nothing is left, then it's rayon and the very best one. Polyester is nothing else than plastic, and plastic don't burn fully.

The yarn's size is important as well. A thinner than makes the design look better, it means as well double stitches and more value for the african lace. However, it's generally better to compromise as having a thinner yarn might also leads to broken yarns.
You can see what is the yarn size you get on the laces : a big yarn don't cover as good as a small one. It's basically why cheap laces have motifs not fully covered and gaps in the motifs.

There is another issue about yarn's colors: depending on the country's legislation where the yarn is manufactured, some special colors (Especially the reds) might be harmful for the health and lead to cancer. Some colors are totally banned in Europe as they have been registered as dangerous when in contact with the skin. Lace made in Europe are all garanteed without these deadly colorations
